Dr. Penney serves as the University Provost and Dean of Clinical Affairs, and has been a leader in medical practice and education for many decades. He has earned many professional awards and accomplishments, such as being recognized as one of the “Top Surgeons” by the Consumer Research Council of America for 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2013. Also, Dr. Penney is a recipient of the Prince Phillip Silver Medal from the University of Toronto for earning the second highest grade point average at Graduation.
Dr. Penney has worked tirelessly to modernize the University from a small, regional Caribbean school to transition it into a highly successful, larger, international institution with a multicultural student population. Dr. Penney’s extensive educational experience helped the school expand to its current location on the beautiful island of Barbados. He takes a great deal of pride in guiding and leading students through the process of preparation to successfully passing the USMLE, and helping students train and move forward in their career paths to becoming the best physicians that they can be.
Dr. Penney primarily works with the Clinical Science students and assists in their second two years of medical school, ensuring that students have proper clinical rotation placements. His work is vital in assisting students attain the necessary exposure to the core rotations and to implement the knowledge and skills acquired during the Basic Science years. Dr. Penney’s leadership is a key component to achieving these goals.
